Gail Ziggler was asked to discuss the ongoing series and what we can look forward to April and May of 2016.

You can view all the details on our Facebook page by click here.

  1. What are the April and May 2016 Art Off The Walls events going to feature?

The April and May events will feature multiple artists exhibiting works in glass, water colors, pottery, jewelry, oil paintings, pencil drawings, photography and more.  During the May event, the Murrieta Valley Unified School District Art Instructors will be showcasing their student’s artwork.  Each artist and artisan is allowed to exhibit and sale their craft during the three hour event.

  1. What is the history of the event?

That first Art Off The Walls in October 2014 event featured 8 artists and about 40 people attended.  The events now feature approximately 30 artists each month and Art Off The Walls draws over 300 people in attendance during the three hour event.  Each month I am typically approached by 3 or 4 new artists who are first time attendees to the event asking for an opportunity to be involved in this fast growing, popular event.

In August of 2014, Council Member/TCSD President Jeff Comerchero held a meeting with local artists and arts based groups to discuss the Cultural Arts Master Plan and the City’s efforts in Cultural Art programming.  Several local artists attended that meeting and expressed a desire to have a place to exhibit their artwork and share their passion for the arts with others.   I started looking for a place in the City I could use to host a monthly art event, and at that time the Truax Development Group was looking for ways to support the arts in Temecula.  After discussing my concept of a monthly, multi-artist art exhibition with Mr. Truax, he agreed to allow me to utilize the space in his building for the event.  The first Art Off The Walls event was held in  October 2014.

  1. What should newcomers expect to experience at Art Off The Walls

Music is always a part of the event, and during April and May the live entertainment will be provided by soloist as well as multiple musicians and vocalists from the School of Musicology, a local music school.

Each event is different in that we sometimes have poetry readings, we sometimes have ballerinas performing; it just depends on who is interested and available to participate.  We even have a young man who comes to the event with his vintage typewriter and drafts one-of-a-kind poems for a donation.

Light appetizers are always served, but I am excited to announce we plan to expand the event to feature local chefs presenting in the Culinary Arts category,  Beginning in May, multiple caterers and/or restaurants will be participating in the event to showcase their culinary talents.  With the addition of the culinary wing to Temecula Valley High School, I am hoping to invite the school to participate in the event as well.

  1. Is there a particular reason the event is housed in The Truax Building?

Art Off the Walls is a multi-artist art event held on the first Friday of the month, in conjunction with our Gallery at The Merc Art Exhibition and artist meet and greet.  Housed in the first floor of the Truax Building in Old Town Temecula, the unfinished space lends itself to a relaxed, hip vibe for people to come out and meet and mingle with others who enjoy art, music, poetry, good food, and it gives the local artist an opportunity to share their passion with others.  Art Off the Walls features talented artists in every medium and includes sometimes includes performing artists in poetry and dance.
